I meet Shawn many years ago when he first started getting flow on FBM. During that time, I worked with him to design his own signature frame, the Capone, and traveled a lot with Shawn, hanging with him in good times and bad. Much like Shawn’s riding he charges his work and takes care of his family in the same style.
Shawn Arata is basically the man. I asked Shawn a few questions for this page and here are his responses.
What made you and the family move to Austin?Â
Shawn: Believe it or not I was only going to be here for 2 months max to help out Stew Johnson with his house and make a couple bucks. Then Kristina and I got back together and she hopped on a plane and we fell in love with Austin. Two and half weeks later we were back looking for a place to live in Austin. Best decision we have made and of course NO SNOW!! Haha
How is riding in Austin?
Shawn: Riding is definitely amazing, especially the amazing trails that make your jaw drop. Crazy Street spots every where and a lot of them. Then there’s the bmx community here that are some of the nicest and laid back people I’ve met. It doesn’t hurt that a zillion people come to visit and ride that make it a blast.
How is the family doing?
Well I’ll start with saying we just welcomed a new addition to the family, baby Gavin., so now there are five Aratas. Stew got me fit completes for Connor and Mikayla so watch out. Connor turned 8 in April and loving the cub scouts and his bike. Mikayla turned 7 in July. She is killing it at softball and as a rider also. If it wasn’t for my amazing wife Kristina I don’t know where I would be. I’m a very lucky man. Life is amazing.
